Denise Harris 2015_1Denise Harris is a sought after presenter in the area of Human Trafficking. Ms Harris became involved in human trafficking at a very young age and escaped only when her trafficker was killed. Many would have become bitter or given up but not Denise. Ms Harris has been awarded with numerous certificates of accomplishment and completion. Some of her areas of accomplishment are Bible Study Partner, Light House of Prayer Partner, Beat The Street and Friend 2 Friend (Medical College of Wisconsin covering HIV awareness). Denise is an active member of the AODA Recovery Community having received certificates from Gateway to Change (a residential AODA facility) for Hardest Working Client (2009 and 2010), Most Supportive Client (2009) and Most Improved Client (2009). Ms Harris graduated from Gateway in 2010 and returns regularly to encourage others struggling with addiction. She facilitates RENEWAL (a faith-based female AODA support group) at The Convergence Resource Center (CRC). Triumphing over the past Ms Harris is an HSTSI (Human and Sex Trafficking Support Initiative) Facilitator at CRC. Some of her areas of responsibility are providing one on one support for Human Trafficking Survivors, Co-facilitating SYNC (SOLACE Youth Network Club – a 12 week summer program for girls ages 12 – 15), Participating in support groups, Solace Support Line Operator (a warm line call center for Human Trafficking Survivors) and Front Office Administration. Denise has been featured in all forms of media raising awareness to different aspects of Human Trafficking including radio, TV, local newspapers and magazine articles. Most recently Ms Harris was interviewed regarding the branding with tattoos that occurs during trafficking and is in the process of having her tattoo removed. An original portrait of Denise Harris by a local artist was featured as part of the My Sister’s Story project. The portrait hangs in her office at Convergence Resource Center. Once you meet Denise you will never forget her. She has three children and six grand children.
